Pipes turn cherry-red

My friend has a 2002 Road King Classic. Fuel-injected. He had Harley put on a Stage 1 kit (louder pipes, air cleaner, & some chip.) One day noticed pipes turned cherry-red (rear crossover exhaust by the head.) Took to Harley dealer, they found no problem (but eventually gave his money back after he went to the 2nd dealer.) Took to a different Harley dealer. They said this is normal but installed a race tuner (separates front & back fuel injectors because it is running lean.) $500 later. The pipes still turn cherry-red. Anyone have this problem and do you think it is normal? Could pipes be thinning? If not normal do you know what to do?
